Ansem nodded and returned the gesture.

"I believe we are. But how will your sister find me being here? Is she not the one that forbid you to go where I took you?"

He gazed back, slight worry growing, but still a knowledge that he would protect her in the back of his mind.

She gave a solemn frown.

"She won't mind. And she will get a bit angry knowing I went in the forest with someone that she doesn't know, but trust me. If I explain, she'll understand."

Kaliko raised a brow at him. "Whats wrong?"

Ansem shook his head firmly.

"It is not but an old plague of mine. It haunts me and though I try I cannot shake it from my pelt nor my mind."

He reminded himself sternly that the more attached he became to this dog, the harder it would be when the time came to leave her.

She lifted her head slightly, ears bent back. Thunder was rolling fast and smoothly, and she wondered if they would make it through that little bit of City life they had to pass to make it to the Junkyard.

Kaliko seemed to ponder over this, worringly, but let it slip from her mind, unpreturbed. She glanced at Ansem; it would be hard when he had to leave. He seemed to be her only friend besides Nazoria.

Ansem looked calmly forward and continued on, the thought of a storm a dear friend to him. He had visited that thought before many times and that thought visited him. He was not afraid of it any longer, merely annoyed.

He leapt over a large tree branch and stepped through the grass with a solemn walk. He knew all to well that if lightning were to strike a tree, Kaliko would not be the one to be killed. As was his vow, he must protect her. The thought made him shudder, but he did not allow it to overcome him.

Just through this expanse of trees, and past the water, then we're there. She thought to herself, watching Ansem jump over a fallen branch. She swiftly did the same, no sound being heard when she landed on the grass.

Kaliko looked down, walking on, her nose scrunching up as she smelt the Junkyard nearby. She spun her head upwards to look at Ansem, and she paused in her steps. But she went on after a few seconds, trotting slowly.
"Almost there...Thank god. I can't stand to be out here any second longer," She smiled at Ansem. "But I have enjoyed it so far."

Ansem smiled, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction.

"As have I. Kaliko, I apologize to you for not telling you the story of my amulet. However, know this, if I were to tell you, you would be in grave danger."

He looked at her with sad eyes, his face showing the depth of his apology.

Her ears gave a droop, but only a small one.

"I would've liked to know, but your words have warned me not to ask again. I understand that completely." Kali gave a weak smile, going through the last clump of trees and grass to show the edge of a footpath. She glanced at Ansem, a grin set on her maw.

"Just along this path and then we're there."

Ansem nodded, "I shall greet your sister as the leader she is. She is free to judge me as she pleases, though I must wonder if she knows my story herself."

The stench of the dump ahead curled into his nose but he quickly grew accustomed to it and pushed the thought of it away.

As quickly as they'd met, they were where this dog called home. He wondered how he would be accepted for the time that he was there.
